Journeyman Electrician License Requirements
To qualify for a Utah Journeyman Electrician license, you must meet the following:
Work Experience: Completion of a 4-year approved apprenticeship (576 classroom hours plus 6,000 hours of on-the-job training), or 16,000 hours of documented experience. The JATC (Joint Apprenticeship and Training Committee) programs are a common path.
Age: Applicants must be at least 18 years old.
Application: Submit a completed application with experience documentation and applicable fees through the DOPL online portal at dopl.utah.gov. Effective January 19, 2026, first-time candidates submit the Verification of Electrician Experience form directly to Prov with their exam registration.
