Journeyman Electrician Experience Hours by State

Texas journeyman electrician. Under Texas Occupations Code §1305.155, to become a journeyman electrician, an applicant must have 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under the supervision of a master electrician and must pass an examination. [Source: Texas Register adopted rules]

To be eligible to sit for examination as a journeyman electrician, an applicant must: (1) Complete 7,000 hours of the on-the-job training required under Texas Occupations Code §1305.155. [Source: Texas Register adopted rules]

Washington journey level electrician. Successfully completed the work experience and education requirements of an 8,000 hour electrical construction trade apprenticeship program approved under chapter 49.04 RCW. Four thousand of the hours must be new industrial or commercial electrical installations under the supervision of a master journey level electrician or journey level electrician and not more than a total of 4,000 hours in all specialties under the supervision of a master journey level electrician, journey level electrician, master specialty electrician working in that electrician's specialty, or specialty electrician working in that electrician's specialty. Maine journeyman electrician. Completion of at least 8,000 work hours in electrical installations as a licensed apprentice electrician and completion of a 576-hour course of study as adopted by the board. [Source: 32 M.R.S. §1202-B]

An individual applying pursuant to this subparagraph who has completed a 576-hour course of study adopted by the board and at least 4,000 of the 8,000 required work hours in the field of electrical installations as a licensed apprentice electrician may take the examination prior to completing the remaining required work hours. New Hampshire journeyman electrician. Obtain 8000 hours practical or field experience as an apprentice to a journeyman or master electrician licensed by the board. [Source: Elec 304.01]

That section also asks for one further qualification. One qualification is: Obtain 600 hours of electrical schooling, including a minimum of 24 hours on electrical safety. [Source: Elec 304.01]

Another qualification in that section is: Have 10 years of experience as a journeyman or master electrician licensed in another jurisdiction. [Source: Elec 304.01]

Kentucky electrician. The statute requires eight thousand (8,000) hours of verifiable experience in the electrical trade since the applicant's sixteenth birthday. Completion of any one of the listed options substitutes for four thousand (4,000) hours of verifiable experience. [Source: KRS 227A.060]

Minnesota Class A journeyworker electrician. Class A journeyworker electrician, the minimum total is 48 months. [Source: Minnesota DLI experience requirements]

Hawaii journey worker electrician. Effective July 1, 2013, an applicant for licensing pursuant to this chapter shall possess the following minimum qualifications. [Source: HRS §448E-5]

Experience in residential or commercial wiring of at least five years full-time or its equivalent, but not less than ten thousand hours, in the trade under the supervision of a journey worker or supervising electrician; and (B) Satisfactory completion, accepted by a University of Hawaii community college offering an appropriate program of study, of two hundred forty hours of electrical academic coursework. Virginia uses a sliding scale for an applicant seeking a journeyman electrician license. The pairs in the rule are a bachelor's degree in an engineering curriculum related to the trade and one year of practical experience, an associate degree or a certificate of completion from at least a two-year program and two years of practical experience, 240 hours of formal vocational training and four years, 160 hours of formal vocational training and five years, 80 hours of formal vocational training and six years, 40 hours of formal vocational training and seven years, or no formal vocational training and eight years of practical experience.
