What to Expect on the Arizona Electrician Exam
Arizona has no statewide journeyman electrician license. The Arizona Registrar of Contractors (ROC) issues electrical contractor licenses only. There are three contractor classifications: R-11 (residential), C-11 (commercial), and CR-11 (dual residential and commercial). All three require passing a PSI exam. The trade exam is 110 questions over 4 hours, open book with NEC 2023 permitted, 70% passing score. In addition to the trade exam, all applicants must also pass the Arizona Statutes and Rules Exam (SRE); confirm the current format in the PSI bulletin. The PSI exam fee is $66 per exam, paid separately. Arizona requires 4 years of qualifying experience (8,000 hours) in the applicable classification before applying with the ROC. Arizona has no statewide code adoption; cities and counties adopt their own NEC editions, so confirm the edition referenced in the current PSI candidate bulletin. The ROC application includes background checks, financial statement requirements, and proof of liability insurance, all of which must be completed before you can license. Phoenix, Tucson, and Scottsdale are the largest markets in the state. Arizona's fast-growing construction market means strong demand for licensed electrical contractors. The practice questions below cover all NEC 2023 topics tested on the Arizona ROC PSI exam.
