What to Expect on the Oklahoma Electrician Exam

Oklahoma has a statewide journeyman electrician license through the Construction Industries Board (CIB). The exam is administered by PSI: 100 questions, 240 minutes (4 hours), 70% passing score, open book with NEC 2023 permitted, and a $92 exam fee. In November 2024, Oklahoma reduced its passing score from 75% to 70% under House Bill 3215, effective for all CIB exams. If you have been studying under the older 75% standard, the current threshold is lower. Oklahoma requires 8,000 hours of on-the-job training under a licensed journeyman or master electrician before applying with the CIB. Oklahoma also licenses Master Electricians and Electrical Contractors through separate exams. The CIB exam covers all major NEC 2023 topics with emphasis on Articles 210 (branch circuits), 220 (load calculations), 250 (grounding and bonding), 310 (conductors), and 430 (motors). Oklahoma City, Tulsa, Norman, Broken Arrow, and Edmond are the largest markets. Oklahoma's energy, aerospace, and manufacturing sectors drive substantial electrical work across the state. The practice questions below are aligned to NEC 2023 and the Oklahoma CIB PSI exam format.

Tips for the Oklahoma PSI Exam

  • The Oklahoma exam is open book, so tab your NEC for Articles 110, 210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 300, 310, and 430.
  • You won't have time to look up every answer. Know the major numbers cold, and use the book for edge cases.
  • PSI delivers the exam at its own network of PSI test centers. Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment with your ID.
  • PSI questions often test the specific NEC article number, not just the concept. Knowing where a rule lives matters.
  • Budget your time: spend no more than 90 seconds per question on the first pass, then return to flagged items.
