What to Expect on the Nevada Electrician Exam

Nevada does not issue a statewide journeyman electrician license. The Nevada State Contractors Board (NSCB) licenses Electrical Contractors only. The primary classification is C-2 (Electrical). The C-2 exam is administered by PSI: 80 questions, 240 minutes (4 hours), 70% passing score, open book with NEC 2023 permitted, and a $68 exam fee. Because Nevada licenses contractors rather than journeymen at the state level, electricians in Nevada typically work under a licensed contractor before obtaining their own contractor license. The NSCB application process requires documentation of trade experience, financial statements, and proof of liability insurance and workers' compensation coverage. Las Vegas and Reno are the two dominant markets. Las Vegas's hospitality, gaming, entertainment, and data center construction sectors generate enormous electrical work. Nevada's construction market has significant seasonal peaks aligned with commercial and resort development cycles. The NEC 2023 is the base electrical code statewide. Articles 210, 220, 250, 310, and 430 are most frequently tested. The practice questions below cover all NEC 2023 topics on the Nevada NSCB PSI exam.

Tips for the Nevada PSI Exam

  • The Nevada exam is open book, so tab your NEC for Articles 110, 210, 220, 230, 240, 250, 300, 310, and 430.
  • You won't have time to look up every answer. Know the major numbers cold, and use the book for edge cases.
  • PSI delivers the exam at its own network of PSI test centers. Arrive 30 minutes before your appointment with your ID.
  • PSI questions often test the specific NEC article number, not just the concept. Knowing where a rule lives matters.
  • Budget your time: spend no more than 90 seconds per question on the first pass, then return to flagged items.
