What to Expect on the Kentucky Electrician Exam

Kentucky has a statewide journeyman electrician license through the Kentucky Division of Occupations and Professions. The exam is administered by ICC or Prometric depending on the license type: 80 questions, 240 minutes (4 hours), 70% passing score, open book with NEC 2023 permitted, and exam fees of $80 to $100. Kentucky is one of a small number of states with active license reciprocity agreements with neighboring states. Kentucky has reciprocity arrangements with Ohio, Virginia, West Virginia, and Louisiana, which means a Kentucky journeyman license may allow you to obtain credentials in those states without retaking the full exam. Kentucky requires 8,000 hours of apprenticeship or on-the-job training before applying. The Division of Occupations and Professions also issues Master Electrician and Electrical Contractor licenses. The most frequently tested NEC articles include Article 210 (branch circuits), Article 220 (load calculations), Article 250 (grounding), Article 310 (conductors), and Article 430 (motors). Louisville, Lexington, Bowling Green, and Covington are the largest markets in the state. The practice questions below are aligned to NEC 2023 and cover all topics tested on the Kentucky journeyman and master electrician exams.
