What to Expect on the Arkansas Electrician Exam

Arkansas has a statewide journeyman electrician license through the Arkansas Department of Labor and Licensing (ADLL). The exam is administered by Prometric: 60 questions, 180 minutes (3 hours), 70% passing score, open book with NEC 2023 permitted, and an $80 exam fee. With only 60 questions, the Arkansas journeyman exam is shorter than most state exams, which means each question carries more weight on your final score. The time limit of 3 hours gives roughly 3 minutes per question. Arkansas requires at least 8,000 hours of documented electrical work experience before applying for the journeyman license. Arkansas also licenses Electrical Contractors separately through the Contractors Licensing Board, which requires additional business and law testing. The most frequently tested NEC articles include Article 220 (load calculations), Article 250 (grounding and bonding), Article 310 (conductors), and Article 430 (motors). Little Rock, Fayetteville, and Fort Smith are the largest markets in the state. The practice questions below are aligned to NEC 2023 and the Arkansas Prometric exam format.
